Hi Off-Campus Grads,
With the cold weather slowly on its way out, it's time for all of you to
venture out of the labs and enjoy some fun activities. Below are some
events happening over the next weeks. As always, off-campus events are
suggested by the members on this list, so if you've been wanting to do
something around Boston and think other grads would enjoy, why not have
GSC pay for part of it? Just email me with your ideas and we'll get it
planned.

3. Persian New Year Celebration (Mar 13)
The Eastgate Iranian community invites you to come and celebrate the
Persian New Year (Norouz) on Saturday, March 13th! We will enjoy
traditional decor and delicious desserts, decorate hard-boiled eggs with
the kids, and have a great time celebrating the coming of spring.
Everyone is welcome to join us! We will gather on Saturday, March 13th
at 2:00 pm in the Penthouse Lounge. There will be fun, food, and
activities for all ages!
Read on to learn more about the Norouz celebration:
For over 3000 years, in harmony with spring, Iranians have celebrated
Norouz (meaning "A New Day" in Persian) as the start of their new year.
Coinciding with the spring equinox, Norouz was celebrated by
Zoroastrians and has remained as a tradition since then. Today many
countries like Iran, Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Turkey, and Tajikistan
celebrate this day. During this time of the year Iranians come together,
bake pastry, decorate Haft-Seen (Seven S Table) and color eggs.
We hope to see you there!
Hosted by the Eastgate Spouses, Partners & International Residents
Coordinators and the Eastgate Parents Coordinators

as a
//// Pi RECITATION CONTEST ////
with prizes of $50/20/10 worth in gift certificates.
So please start memorising the digits of Pi! There are plenty of
resources for this online. I've provided the first 500 digits below for
reference. Last year's winner was somewhere in the 100's, but that
doesn't say anything about this year. Start studying!!!
This event is brought to you by the Ashdown
Cultural Committee, sponsored by the GSC, and open to all graduate
students, so tell your friends next door to start memorising too. :)
* '10000' is binary, not decimal.
