[Gsc-hca-family] HCA committee representative

Good Morning-

Jonathan & Denise, thank you for the check-in and your feedback and it's understandable. With Zoom call and recruiting, the burnout is significant factor. It also leads me wonder how off-campus families are coping, too.

OGE was hoping to have grad participation in the interview candidates. I was a temp for a maternity leave (April- August) with GSC before I was hired by OGE the following year. The GSC officers who were transitioning appreciated my connection to a current grad program and experience with the Meng students; the temp job let me gave me insight on the role.

With the pandemic, this family coordinator may have to put in the role then meet the grads where they are: I'll bring it up with OGE. Again, thank you.

Best-
Lauren

(Denise, were there any photos of the Westgate window art installation? I wanted to see how it turned out)

Hi Jonathan, Hi Lauren,

Thank you for your email. For occasional conversations I can establish a contact to the Westgate parent's resource coordinators. If you are looking for a more formal conversation I am happy to advertise this at Westgate (However, most people are tired of Zoom calls, and recruiting has proved to be harder now than during normal times).

Let me know your thoughts.

Best,

Denise

Hi Lauren,

We don't currently have an active family subcommittee. At one point Jose (cc'd) was hoping to chair it, but ultimately had too many other time commitments. I've also added the gsc-cha-family alias that includes the eastgate/westgate leadership. I'll let any of them chime in with suggestions if they have anyone they think would be good to reach out to.

Best,
Jonathan

Good evening, Officers & HCA Chairs-

I understand OVC/OGE are getting close to naming a Program Administrator for Graduate Student Families. OGE would want them to connect to ideally, GSC & then other Grad student leadership.

Are there any HCA family subcommittee representatives? If not, are if there any past Council or Dept reps (those with a child to two) who came to GCM meetings?

Everyone realizes grad w/families have even more constraints on their time; we would keep commitments to conversations to get their perspective and grad reps can be either on or off campus.

Thanks for your time--

Lauren
