Dear Council representatives and friends,

We’re excited to announce that we are forming a Future of Diversity and
Inclusion Working Group. The goal of this working group is to develop a
proposal for how the GSC can better support sustained engagement on
diversity and inclusion for many years to come.

We’re encouraged by the events and outreach of HCA’s Diversity and
Inclusion Subcommittee (DIS) this year. Over the past few months, we’ve
collected feedback from DIS members, GSC ExComm members, and student group
leaders. While we can draw on our own experiences as Presidents (past and
current) of the GSC to help identify areas for improvement and to
facilitate discussions on how to harmonize these efforts with existing GSC
activities, now we need your help to determine what we need to do for this
proposal to have the strongest impact on our student community.

We plan on having approximately six meetings over the next two months, each
covering a different topic relevant to supporting diversity and inclusion
efforts (times/topics TBA). The membership for this working group is open,
and all graduate students are welcome to attend any/all meetings. Even if
you can only make one or two meeting times, we encourage you to participate
to the extent that you can. The working group will report back to Council
in February.

We will be sharing more information at the upcoming GCM, but in the
meantime, please mark your calendars for the *working group’s kickoff
meeting on Friday, December 8th at 1pm in the GSC Office (50-220)*. In
addition, if you would like to sign up to receive email updates and
announcements, please sign up at https://mailman.mit.edu:444/
