Hi everyone,

Find attached (and posted below) the minutes from our meeting tonight. The
next meeting will take place on Wednesday, May 8th at 6pm.

In the meantime, if you would like to get more involved with the Family
Subcommittee, or have any comments/suggestions/questions, feel free to
email gsc-hca-family-chair at mit.edu. We would really like to hear your
feedback on what would be the best ways to alleviate your childcare needs
(both long-term and short-term solutions).

Best,
Anna

------------------------------------------------------

   1. Back-up childcare pilot program
      1. Our understanding is that Kathy Simons will take care of all the
communication with Parents in a Pinch. Anna will email Kathy and confirm.
      2. Advertisement plan
         1. Before launch:
            1. Update the family subcommittee’s page on the GSC website,
and add a link with a full description of the program.
Nathaniel will email
Maokai regarding logistics. Emily will do the write-up on
the program, and
            Marzyeh will include a “user-blurb”.
            2. Email dorms, off-campus, Spouses&Partners, FamilyNet, GW at MIT,
as soon as we have all the details of the program
            3. The Family Subcommittee to give a presentation at dorm Town
Hall meetings, and S&P Wednesday meeting. Emily will
coordinate with Tiky
regarding Westgate meeting, Anna will contact Jennifer
regarding S&P
            meeting.
         2. During the pilot:
            1. Presentation at orientation events: Grad 102, Families 101
            2. Ideas: Posters in dorms, international students’ newcomers
guide, a flyer to dorm welcome package, etc.
          3. Plan on how to gather data during pilot: We need to know what
data Parents in a Pinch gather currently and whether the GSC will have
access to “raw data”. Anna will email Kathy.
      4. Including undergraduates to the program
         1. Aalap will email DUE registrar to find out the number of
undergrads with families. Once we have that, we can get a quote from
Parents in a Pinch to see how much funding we need from the
UA or the DUE.
Anna will email Kathy to give a heads up that we are looking
into this.
       2. Summary of meeting with Dean Ortiz on Thursday, April 4th

All our recommendations to EBOC were rejected, which means that grad
students will continue to have very limited access to on campus childcare
in terms of both availability and affordability of TCC. This means that we
should continue to push for the cooperative childcare idea, the MIT
coordinated family daycare network, and a need-based childcare grant. We
will set-up a meeting with Martin Schmidt to get a sense on how space
allocations work at MIT.

Next meeting will be on Wednesday May 8 at 6pm. Location TBD
