The changes explained below are proposed to satisfy neighborhood complaints
on Bay State Road in Boston. After extensive research and conversations with
many of you, MIT Parking and Transportation has determined the following
changes to be most effective and least disruptive to student life and
safety. It is our goal to provide safe shuttle service while maintaining
good relations with our neighbors. Mutually agreed upon changes will be put
into place on June 1, at the end of the school year.
The proposed Boston West Saferide route change will eliminate the stop at 64
Bay State Road by continuing the shuttle down Commonwealth Ave westbound,
turning right onto Deerfield Street then left onto Bay State road stopping
at 111 and 155. The shuttle will exit Bay State Road by taking a left onto
Granby Street traveling two blocks on Bay State Road.
The Boston Daytime Shuttle will maintain the current route until school year
service ends on May 29. When service resumes on September 1, the proposed
Boston Daytime Shuttle route change will eliminate all stops on Bay State
Road by continuing the route on Commonwealth Ave. The shuttle will stop on
Commonwealth Avenue westbound, at the MBTA stop at Silber Way, and will turn
left on Cummington Street to reverse direction onto Commonwealth Avenue
eastbound.
MIT reserves the right to use Bay State Road when Red Sox games and other
unforeseen traffic make Kenmore Square impassible.
Please provide feedback on these proposed changes.
