Hello!

The week may be half over, but our newsletter is just getting started. Let's dive into the latest GSC DEI newsletter!

1. GSC DEI Officer Elections

GSC DEI will be holding officer elections at our next general meeting on May 1st (between 5 - 6 PM). Please submit a nomination for yourself or a fellow grad student who may be interested in running for one of our officer positions here: https://forms.gle/qE22zVJsiScyeeuX6

No experience is necessary (even for the Chair position)! You can view a summary of responsibilities here<https://docs.google.com/document/d/1ZB3yN_Lrcduayik7vmI7mTyNGJnRKEre8IZGSVC7Gew/edit?usp=sharing>.

2. GFLI at MIT Alumni Mixer

[cid:image001.png at 01D967B7.2AAD8030]

As part of Grad Student Appreciation Week, GFLI at MIT has teamed up with MIT OGE and MIT Alumni Association to host a Graduate First-generation/Low Income (GFLI) Student x Alumni Meet-and-Greet on April 7th from 5:30 - 7:30 PM in room 8-219! Meet first gen/low income MIT alumni who completed graduate school at either MIT or elsewhere and gain mentors who can provide insight on how to navigate grad school from a GFLI perspective.

3. Grad Food Resource Fair

[cid:image002.png at 01D967B7.2AAD8030]

GSC DEI will be cohosting another grad food resource fair with the Food Security Action Team @ MIT on April 10th from 10 AM - 12 PM. We plan to have tables set up outside in North Corridor with lots of great resources like food maps, recipes, and opportunities to talk with campus support personnel from different offices at MIT to learn about support and funding available to improve food security. GSC DEI will be distributing personal hygiene products and non-perishable food items throughout the fair, too.

We are looking for volunteers to help with setting up our tables before the fair, staffing tables during the fair, and helping clean up after the fair. Please add your name and availability to this sheet<https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1RUtySdA7Gh-3rQppVFf2hF3V8YXeL0zacS6z_SHQ5AA/edit?usp=sharing> if you are able to help!

4. GFLI at MIT Maintaining Professional Connections Workshop - April 12th @ 5:30 PM

[cid:image003.png at 01D967B7.2AAD8030]

In partnership with MIT's CAPD team, we'll be hosting a workshop (+dinner) on Wednesday, April 12th from 5:30 - 6:30 PM on how to make and maintain a professional network as a Graduate First-generation/Low Income (GFLI) student with an emphasis on learning networking etiquette and other "hidden curriculum" practices for maintaining a professional contact long term.

Please RSVP here<https://forms.gle/uuohLtEkAmf5JbMA9> to help ensure enough food is ordered!

5. International Student Spring Fest

During the International Students Spring 2023 Fest, MIT international and domestic student communities will be invited to enjoy dinner and exchange information about their cultures and countries. Students are encouraged to bring their country flag and wear traditional costumes and/or items. We will be playing music in different languages from around the world.

If you are interested in participating as a group, please email gsc-diversity-officers at mit.edu<mailto:gsc-diversity-officers at mit.edu>!
