Hi everyone,
We hope you are enjoying approaching the end of the semester! Please enjoy
our latest GSC DEI Newsletter!
General GSC DEI
1.
Disability Justice Game Board Night
Please join the Graduate Student Council Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion
Committee (GSC DEI) for our Disability Justice Board Game Night THIS
THURSDAY (4/28, 7-9 PM EST)! All grad students are welcome, especially
those who identify as disabled and/or neurodivergent. For COVID safety, we
will meet outdoors on the Stata 4th-floor patio (and will move immediately
indoors in case of rain). Dinner will be provided, so please RSVP at this
link to help us plan (https://tinyurl.com/deigamenight) and email us (
gsc-diversity-officers at mit.edu) with any questions!
1.
GSC DEI & OGE FGLI Picnic Social
We wanted to thank everyone who joined us at the FGLI Picnic Social last
week! It was great to meet and interact with you all, and we hope you had a
wonderful time.
If you're interested in staying connected with us and one another and in
growing the network of FGLI grad students across campus, you can join the
following Slack channel we set up for this purpose: mit-fgli.slack.com. If
you are having issues finding/being added to the Slack, please email
gsc-diversity-officers at mit.edu, and we can email an invite to you.
Are you interested in being part of a networking summit for FGLI students
in the Northeast? There is possible financial support for hosting the
conference at MIT this November, but we would need an understanding of
student support for such an initiative. Fill out this 5-question contact
info form if you are interested in helping bring the Summit to MIT

and you can check out the 2021 Summit here

Department and Classroom Inclusion
Are you looking to get more involved with GSC DEI and help get your
department connected to our DEI community? We are looking for more conduits
from departments across MIT schools to help us learn about the needs of
individual departments and inform our plans moving forward. If you are
interested in serving as a GSC DEI conduit for your department or know
someone who might be, contact us as gsc-diversity-officers at mit.edu.
Conduits are graduate student representatives who are interested in DEI
efforts in their departments. Conduits attend a couple of meetings per
semester where we engage in discussion around ongoing DEI efforts. Overall,
it’s a great way to join a network of students interested in DEI and share
institutionalized knowledge and best practices across departments.
Student Life
Do you have an idea for an event centered around community-building among
students and DEI advocacy? Whether it’s a supportive meet-and-greet, an
informational panel, or anything creative in between, we would love to
provide support! Please get in touch with us at
gsc-diversity-officers at mit.edu to discuss your initiative and potential
funding opportunities.
