General GSC DEI

Pop-up Food Connection Initiative

GSC DEI is launching The Food Connection, a new initiative to address food
insecurity on campus! Stop by our table on Wednesday 12/15, 4-8PM in Stata
(location TBA) to pick up a food package, or visit tinyurl.com/foodconnect
to submit an anonymous request for pick up or delivery. If you are
interested in volunteering for monthly Food Connection events throughout
the 2021-2022 academic year, please email us at
gsc-diversity-officers at mit.edu.



Introducing our Constituency Representatives (C-Reps)

GSC DEI is thrilled to welcome new, as well as recurring, C-Reps and
Fellows on our committee this year! Their work is essential in centralizing
information from and advocating for different communities and groups of
students across MIT’s departments. In this newsletter, we are happy to
introduce Rima!

Rima Das (she/her), GSC DEI Surveys & Data Analysis Fellow

I am a 2nd year graduate student in the Mechanical Engineering department
and am passionate about making MIT a more equitable place through our
policies, practices, and curriculum! Through my position as the Surveys &
Data Analysis Fellow, I am collecting data about existing DEI initiatives
across the Institute. Additionally, I serve as GSC DEI’s representative on
the Transitional Funding Phase II committee. In my free time, I love to
read and do things that are hands-on (ranging from crochet to projects with
power tools)!


Department and Classroom Inclusion

Are you looking to get more involved with GSC DEI and help get your
department connected to our DEI community? We are looking for more conduits
from departments across MIT schools to help us learn about the needs of
individual departments and inform our plans moving forward. If you are
interested in serving as a GSC DEI conduit for your department or know
someone who might be, contact us as gsc-diversity-officers at mit.edu.

Conduits are graduate student representatives who are interested in DEI
efforts in their departments. Conduits attend a couple of meetings per
semester where we engage in discussion around ongoing DEI efforts. Overall,
it’s a great way to join a network of students interested in DEI and share
institutionalized knowledge and best practices across departments.


Other Open Positions

We have open positions for a Treasurer and a Constituency Representative
(C-Rep) for first generation/low income students. Please contact
gsc-diversity-officers at mit.edu if interested.



Student Life

Do you have an idea for an event centered around community-building among
students and DEI advocacy? Whether it’s a supportive meet-and-greet, an
informational panel, or anything creative in between, we would love to
provide support! Please get in touch with us at

funding opportunities.
