1 What: GSC Space Task Force - Inaugural Fall Meeting
1 When: Thursday September 29th, 6 - 7:30 pm
1 Where: GSC Office (50-220)
1 Contact: gsc-space-chair at mit.edu<mailto:gsc-space-chair at mit.edu> (please RSVP)

- Student space - whether it be for organized extracurricular activities,
informal relaxation and socializing, or academic interaction beyond the lab -
is an important yet often neglected part of campus life. A variety of exciting
initiatives taking place across the Institute are, however, raising the profile
of this issue, creating powerful opportunities for graduate students to
influence decisions and change MIT for the better.
- We are looking for graduate students to work with us on developing a vision
for graduate student space, engaging the community to collect ideas and
feedback, and presenting results to the administration in various fora.
- There are various volunteer opportunities available that involve varying
degrees of engagement and commitment, but all offer the reward of tangibly
contributing to a better campus for current and future generations of graduate
  students.
- A light meal will be served.
- Please send us an e-mail at gsc-space-chair at mit.edu<mailto:gsc-space-chair at mit.edu> to let us know if you plan
to attend, or with any questions or comments.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

- A 2010/11 GSC Task Force made 38 recommendations on what can be done
both by the organization directly and by the Institute overall to enhance
sustainability on campus. The recommendations fall into a variety of categories,
ranging from waste management in the GSC office to sustainability curriculum
  and research.
- The subcommittee is now working to implement these recommendations and
needs motivated graduate students that can work with others to improve the
GSC's own operations and lobby and support the Institute in its efforts.
- Please visit http://gsc.mit.edu/committees/arc/sustainability/ for more information,
or contact us at gsc-sustainabiliy at mit.edu<mailto:gsc-sustainabiliy at mit.edu> to get involved!
