What: Discussion on graduate women support
When: 8/6 (Thursday) 6pm
Where: GSC office (50-220)'
Contact: Sidney_t at mit.edu

Dear graduate colleagues,

As you may have heard, the position for Women's programs and support is
now eliminated and the function of student support service originally
under Division of Student Life (DSL) will be restructured into other
existing/new divisions.

While disappointed by these decisions made under current financial
constraints, we feel that it's essential to have a conversation with the
higher administration, such as the dean of student life, at this point
to reemphasize and ensure that graduate women support is not weaken or
put aside. With support from the Graduate Student Council (GSC), we
would like to invite everyone who is interested to participate in this
following pre-meeting to gather ideas and formulate what graduate women
needs.

The current plan is to arrange direct conversation between the group and
the DSL administration and come up with a proposal afterwards. Please
help us spread the word to as many people as possible. (event not
limited to women)

What: FILM
When: Summer-Fall
Where: MIT
Contact: shulner at gmail.com

The film 'Predictable But Fun', inspired by research work
at M.I.T. Media Laboratory, investigates expectations, social
choices, technology as a social tool, and digital life.
The story is told by wedding-gown designers from Israel
and Palestine, covering universal themes which transcend race,
religion, color and geography. The film is non-partisan.
The film's production team is currently working on an outreach
program for the film. They are looking for students to work
with on program strategy and execution -- both offline and
online. The efforts will be relating to the film's upcoming
nationwide screenings tour taking place this October.
An interest in the arts, prior community outreach experience,
strong communications n' organizational skills, and a delightful
personality are some of the characteristics they are looking for.
Students will volunteer 5-to-12 hours weekly, depending on the
student's role. Initially this will start as an un-paid position;
yet, students who are the right fit can turn into a paid
opportunity which may include travel.
If you would like to be involved with this project, email
your resume to:
