Come hear author of A Ph.D. Is Not Enough, Peter Feibelman,
talk about how to survive in science

Achy Obejas Reads from her new novel Ruins
Thursday - April 30th, 2009
7PM in Bldg 6-120
Achy Obejas, Ruins
Ruins tells the story of Usnavy, a young man who eagerly signed on
for all the promises when the Cuban Revolution triumphed in 1959.
But as the years have passed, the sacrifices have outweighed the
glories and he's become increasingly isolated in his revolutionary
zeal. Now Usnavy is faced with a choice between love for his family
and the Revolution that has shaped his entire life.
About the author
After leaving Cuba at the age of six, an award-winning journalist,
Obejas worked for more than ten years for the Chicago Tribune writing
and reporting about arts and culture. Among thousands of stories, she
helped cover Pope John Paul II's historic 1998 visit to Cuba, the
arrival of Al-Queda prisoners in Guantanamo, the Versace murder, and
the AIDS epidemic. In 2008, she translated Junot Diaz's Pulitzer-prize
winning novel, The Brief and Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao into Spanish.
Co-sponsored by The Center For New Words, MIT Rainbow Lounge, Foreign
Languages & Literatures, Writing and Humanistic Studies, and Graduate
Student Council.
