------------------------------------------------------------------------
From April 8 to May 8, the first ever MIT Carbonrally will take place.
Students, staff, and faculty are encouraged to form teams to reduce
carbon emissions through small personal actions such as avoiding
eating meat for 2 days a week, knocking a few minutes off your shower
time, and unplugging your PC at night. There are currently 25 different
challenges you can accept on Carbonrally.com, and new ones are added
regularly.

Teams can be of any size, and the top ten teams will win $100. Scoring
is based on the total reduction of carbon emissions for the team from
April 8 to May 8. It takes only 5 minutes to register and join a team,
and 1 minute to accept your first challenge.

In 2008, Carbonrally participants from across the U.S. took over
50,000 personal actions and reduced emissions by 1400 tons.
Let's add MIT's impact in 2009.

To create a team:
1. Register at http://www.carbonrally.com/signup.
2. Click on "Create a New Team."
3. Make sure MIT is the first word of your team name.
4. Select "College/University" for team type.
5. Click on "Invite Friends to Team" to recruit team members.

To join a team:
Click on link in email invitation or register at
http://www.carbonrally.com/signup and use search box to find your team

*Graduate Student News*

The next issue of the GSN (Graduate Student News of MIT) will
spotlight ethics in research--we are looking for articles,
commentaries, essays from different members of the MIT community
(especially grad students and faculty) about the grey areas that we
all have to deal with in our everyday work. The topics can be widely
varied--from work with animals, to nuclear engineering, to working
under a DoD contract, to anything else that comes to mind.

Anyone interested in contributing should email gsn-editor at mit.edu
by Wednesday April 22nd at midnight. Articles or editorials may be up
to 800 words in length. Please include pictures separately with
instructions for placement within the article in the document. Word is
the preferred format. No formatting necessary-- a simple title, author,
and body text will suffice.

Any questions, please contact the editors at gsn-editor at mit.edu.
