*Writing Center will be open this Summer!*
For the first time in its 26-year history, MIT's Writing and
Communication Center will be open during the summer. The new hours
are the result of special funding from Dean Steven Lerman and the
Office of the Dean for Graduate Education, Dean Deborah Fitzgerald
and the Office of Dean of School of Humanities and Social Sciences,
and Assoc. Provost Claude Canizares. The basic concept is to make the
Center's professional consultants available for graduate students
and post-docs during the summer months.
the Writing Center will be open from:
July 1-August 22, Monday through Friday,
from 10:a.m.-noon, 1:00-3:00 p.m.
Appointments will be made on the online scheduler
and there will also be the possibility of dropping in.

*Apply to Serve on an Institute/Faculty Committee!*
The GSC is currently seeking graduate representatives for Institute
and Faculty Committees. These committees are involved with some of the
highest levels of decision making here at MIT and they need graduate
representation.
To begin the process of serving on one of these Committees, please fill
out an application for committee nomination and bring it to 50-220.
For a list of the committees requiring graduate student participation,
for descriptions of each Institute/Faculty committee,
and for applications, see the following link:

*LeadAmerica Conference Speaking Opportunities*
LeadAmerica is a youth leadership organization that hosts college
accredited summer conferences for students with high academic standing.
We strive to help current students grow in their own leadership
development as well as provide hands on experience in a specific field.
Engineering & Robotics:
We have three conferences this summer geared towards high school
students with high academic standing. All of the conferences are at
Franklin W. Olin College of Engineering in Needham, MA.
The dates of our conferences are:
June 16th - 25th
June 30th - July 9th
July 13th - 22nd
The speaking engagements generally last for an hour and half.
We have core lectures that we try to help teach to the students
(Intro to Engineering & Newton’s Laws, Forces, Energy, Vectors and
2-D Motion) but we are also interested in having graduates and
post-doctorates share about their specific research so that the
students can gain an understanding of the various engineering fields.
if interested call Johnathan Thomas at (561) 368-8085 x250
or email jthomas at lead-america.org
Medicine, Science & Robotics:
The MSR program is geared toward or talented middle school students
who have an interest in the sciences (specifically General Science,
Health Science, and Physical Science).
This conference will be hosted at Bentley College.
July 28th - August 6th
The speaking engagements generally last an hour, 45 minutes in length
with 15 minutes Q&A. We are looking to have someone come out and speak
to the students about Exploring Physical Science and What is Robotics?
The talks can be about both Robotics and Medical Application of
Robotics as the conference encompasses both aspects.
