*getfit at mit Fitness Challenge*

We are writing to urge you to let the graduate students in your
departments and living groups know about getfit at mit, the Institute?s
annual fitness challenge that begins in January.

The central goal of getfit at mit is to foster a healthier MIT community.
Participants are urged to exercise at least 150 minutes during the first
week (equivalent to 30 minutes a day, five days a week), working up to
300 total minutes of exercise per week during the last few weeks of the
challenge. Everyone who registers gets a free tee-shirt, and all
participants will have opportunities to participate in special events
and win weekly team and individual prizes, including gift certificates
to sporting goods stores and restaurants and fitness-related prizes such
as pedometers, dance lessons, and passes to ski areas and skating rinks.
The grand prize will be awarded to a team drawn at random from among all
teams meeting a minimum exercise goal.

Starting at the end of December, teams of five to eight members can sign
up online at http://getfit.mit.edu. A kick-off event will be held in
Lobby 10 at noon on January 11, 2006, and the challenge will begin on
January 22.

Contact Lauren Rosano (rosa at med.mit.edu) or Katherine Wahl
(wahl at med.mit.edu) at MIT Medical.
