*Thursday, January 13*
*5:00 p.m.*
*Student Center (W20), Room 400*

The Information Services & Technology (IS&T) Student Advisory Board has
been created to provide greater student input into IS&T's services and
policies. This forum will include topics such as the Microsoft Campus
Agreement, wireless initiatives, residential technology, PDA software
and support, and learning technology initiatives, as well as an open
floor to raise concerns or provide suggestions to IS&T. If you have any
questions, please contact istab at mit.edu

*GSC ACTIVITIES COMMITTEE CHAIR POSITION OPEN*
*Call for Nominations*

The GSC Activities Committee is looking for a new committee chair! One
of the chairs has resigned as of January 1st due to an earlier than
expected graduation.

The committee will be holding elections at its January 25th meeting, and
all students who might be interested in this opportunity are encouraged
to email gsc-ac at mit.edu. If you have any questions about the position,
please do not hesitate to ask. Nominations will remain open for the
position until the elections meeting.
This is a great way to get involved with student life at MIT, meet and
interact with new people across the Institute, and be a part of a lot of
great activities.

*GSC PASSES LEGISLATION AT JANUARY 12th MEETING*

The GSC considered and approved a number of items of legislation at its
January 12th General Council Meeting. Among these items were the following:

-- The Council approved a formal statement of support to "Endorse the
proposal put forth by the LBGT Issues Group to create an Office of LBGT
Services within the Office for Student Life, staffed by a new Assistant
Dean for LBGT Services to institutionalize MIT's commitment 'to creating
an environment in which every individual can work, study, and live
without being harassed'".

-- The Council approved an amendment to the GSC Constitution and Bylaws
which moves the specific names of residence halls which are eligible to
have GSC representatives from the Constitution to the Bylaws, so that
the Constitution does not have to be modified each time a new graduate
residence is constructed. In order for this amendment to fully pass, a
referendum of the graduate student body must be held within 6 months.

-- The Council approved an amendment to the GSC Bylaws which simplifies
the description of the Muddy Charles Pub so that it still outlines the
purpose of the Pub as well as the membership and responsibility of the
Pub's Board of Governors, while allowing the Board of Governors to
decide upon specific details of how best to run the Pub.
