Hello glassy people!

I'm hosting two researchers from Delft University, Prof. Faidra
Oikonomopoulou & Prof. Telesilla Bristogianni, and they're giving a talk on
Thursday afternoon that may be of interest to you all. (More information
below and poster attached.)

Their talk will be on
*The potential of cast glass in structures:*
*Lessons learned through the R&D of realized projects and current research
on a circular strategy on cast glass.*

Thursday, Dec 12th, 4PM
Room: 35-225

Please pass this on if you know others who might be interested!

*Dr. Faidra Oikonomopoulou & Dr. Telesilla Bristogianni,* assistant
professors at TU Delft, conduct research on structural and architectural
applications of cast glass at TU Delft since 2014. They both hold a diploma
degree of Architect Engineer by NTUA, a MSc degree in Building Technology
by TU Delft and a PhD degree by TU Delft. Their research lies at the
interface of structural design, architectural design and material
engineering, with main focus on innovative, sensible and sustainable
applications of cast glass in architecture. It spans from material,
component and fabrication level to building system level and novel
application fields. Together, they have been deeply involved in the R&D of
several renown realized cast glass structures - e.g. the Crystal Houses
(NL), Qaammat Pavilion (GL), the GlassVault (UK), Mirage Sculpture (USA)-
and are further exploring novel research directions towards the successful,
real-world implementation of cast glass in the built environment. Examples
include: defining the strength of volumetric glass elements; developing
cast glass components made of glass waste; using topology optimization for
massive, monolithic cast glass structures; developing fabrication methods
for customized, perplexed geometries of cast glass; and employing cast
glass in the restoration of historic monuments.

Good luck with the end of your semesters and I hope to see some of you at
the talk!
