Dear Friends of the MIT Glass Lab,
Between our thirteenth successful Pumpkin Patch sale, a return by visiting
artist Lino Tagliapietra <http://www.linotagliapietra.com/>, and a
wonderful lecture by JackiePancari <http://jackiepancari.com/home.html>, it
has been a great fall in the MIT Glass Lab!
In other news, musical instrument and musician extraordinaire, Mark
Stewart<http://bangonacan.org/bang_on_a_can_all_stars/mark_stewart_guitars>,
will be returning to lead the MIT Glass Band (see a great video of the
Glass Band here <https://vimeo.com/66584342>) for another season, as we
continue to explore and harness the various sounds glass can make. The
Glass Band will be returning to perform at the MIT Museum in early 2014,
and we’ll be sure to let you know about that when we firm up a date.
But right now, the biggest piece of news to share is that *our
Renovation/Expansion* *campaign has just received a challenge pledge that
could, if* *fulfilled, bring us up to 80% of our goal for funding a
renovated and expanded Glass Lab.* A few weeks ago, a generous donor
proposed a pledge in the amount of $250,000 to be donated if, *and only if*,
matching funds equal to that amount can be raised *before the end of the
calendar year*. We really need to match this gift so that we can stay on
schedule to start construction of a new Glass Lab next spring and start
fall 2014 classes in a new space!
As the year draws to a close and you begin to consider making charitable
contributions, please think of the MIT Glass Lab, and remember that from
now until January 1, 2014 your contribution will be *doubled* during this
next two months!
As long as I'm peppering this letter with hyperlinks, here's another one:
you can give to the Glass Lab Renovation/Expansion Fund
here<http://glasslab.scripts.mit.edu/giving/>.
If you haven' been to the Glass Lab's website recently, you'll see that it
has been completely, and wonderfully, redone by our web goddess, Helen Lee.
Thanks to all of you all for your past, present and future support of the
Lab, in so many different ways.
