[Glass-mit] 2011 MIT Great Glass Pumpkin Patch

Dear friends of the MIT Glass Lab and the MIT Great Glass Pumpkin Patch,
Sorry for the belated message.
I want to thank our loyal and highly competent volunteers for another highly
successful Great Glass Pumpkin Patch. Although the weather was iffy, we got
lucky and managed to hit a non-rainy window and have a great fundraiser. You
all probably know that the Glass Lab is a self-funding program at MIT and
that the Pumpkin Patch provides close to 100% of the revenue we need to keep
the program operating every year. Your generous help keeps the Glass Lab
programs going.
As an extension of this verbal thank-you, I'd like to invite all 2011
volunteers to come watch pumpkins being made in the Glass Lab some time
during the 2011-2012 season. This idea was suggested to me by one of this
year's volunteers, who made the point that volunteers would be even better
at their jobs if they had seen the pumpkins being made. I think it's a great
idea, and so the invitation is hereby extended. Here's how it will work: we
schedule crews 2-3 months in advance, and they are usually on weekend days
from 10AM to 6PM. The "observation" times (open to visitors) will be from
11AM-12 and 2PM-3PM on these days (unless otherwise indicated). We'll allow
up to 6 people at a time during each one of these periods and the spaces
will be assigned on a first-come-first-served basis.
Here's what the schedule looks like going into the holiday season:
Saturday 10/29 (11AM-12 and 2-3PM)
Sunday 11/20 (11AM-12 only)
Saturday 12/3 (11AM-12 and 2-3PM)
Sunday 12/18 (2PM-3 only)
2012 crew dates to be determined - will be sent out by sometime in November.

So, if you've been curious to see what the Glass Lab looks like and how
pumpkins get made, sign up by replying to me. I'll get back to you with
either a confirmation or a request to reschedule if the slot is filled. I'll
also give you directions to the lab.
Once again, thanks for your help, and we will hope to see you in the Glass
Lab some time before next fall.
