Hello all,
I know that we are still officially in summer mode, off on vacations, and
not wanting to think too much about the impending fall, but the other night
when I heard the song of crickets outside my window it triggered thoughts of
cooler weather and, inevitably (and perhaps perversely) glass pumpkins and
the upcoming MIT Great Glass Pumpkin Patch.
This year the Pumpkin Patch will enter it's second decade as the sole
funding source for the MIT Glass Lab. Every year the event has been
phenomenally successful, and as a result, every year the Glass Lab has been
able to continue serving more and more students, offer lectures,
residencies, and student scholarships to Pilchuck and Haystack.
This year, the 11th annual MIT Great Glass Pumpkin Patch will be held at
Kresge Oval on the first day of October. The Friday opening will be on
September 30 at the usual time (5-8PM), and the Saturday sale (10AM to 3PM)
will be on October 1. The rain date is on Sunday, October 2. I hope that you
will plan to join us as a volunteer this year. Over the years a wonderful
once-a-year community has grown around this event, and every year it feels
more like a kind of reunion.
So this is just a gentle preliminary call for volunteers. Feel free to
respond. I will send out another, more detailed letter relatively soon.
Until then, enjoy what's left of the summer!
Cheers,
Peter
