Hello fellow Pumpkineers and other parties interested in the Glass Lab,Here
we are, not quite at the end of the summer and already we are less than five
weeks away from the 8th Annual MIT Great Pumpkin Patch!
Last year's event was another amazingly successful one. In four hours we
sold close to 1600 pumpkins, and by the end of the sale there were only
about 20 items left. We even got someone to come and take away the 800 pound
giant pumpkin I was afraid we might have to dismantle with a chain saw.
This year's event comes a bit earlier than the last couple (but later than
the first one, which, you will recall, was the weekend after 9/11). This
year the sale will be on Saturday, September 27th from 10 AM to 3 PM, and
the opening is on Friday the 26th from 5 to 8 PM.
Once again, of course, I am getting in touch to round up volunteers for the
event. As always, we will need people on friday to help transport pumpkins
and wet up for the opening, and, especially, on saturday to help run the
sale.
Below is a schedule of the event with volunteer needs:

Friday 8 AM - noon: transport pumpkins out of hiding into the light of day
on Kresge Oval.
Friday noon - 5 PM: unwrap pumpkins, price pumpkins, put tape on price tags
so they won't all come off in the morning dew.
Friday 5-8 PM: be at opening (this directed more at current students and
monitors)
Friday 8 PM - Sat 6 AM: the overnight shift - guarding the pumpkins under
the tent.
Saturday 6:30 - 9:30 AM: put pumpkins out on the oval, reconfigure tables
into battle positions.
Saturday 10:00 AM- 3:00 PM: the sale (receipt writers, packers, matchers,
pumpkin police squad, etc, etc)
Saturday 3:00 PM - 4 or 5 PM: cleanup.

I don't think I need to remind you that volunteers make this event possible,
and this event makes the continued operations of the Glass Lab possible. We
in the Glass Lab really, really appreciate the help of each and every
volunteer who comes to help!!!
So please save some part of the weekend to come join (and help) us, and
please, let me know by e-mail when you are available to help so that I may
start to put together a list of volunteers. Thanks!
Looking forward to seeing you all again,
Peter
