Subject: Volunteers for the 5th annual Great Glass Pumpkin Patch @ MIT
Hello All,
Well, it's getting to be that time of year again.... fall creeps
in, the cooler winds start to blow, the Sox start to slide .... school
starts, leaves fall off the trees, and it's time for the Great Glass
Pumpkin Patch!
Preparations are well under way: press releases have been going
out (we'll be doing some spots on WBUR radio again this year), the
tent has been ordered, and we have a fine poster/postcard designed by
Helen Lee, and an eye-catching t-shirt design by Stephanie Hartman.
The Pumpkin Patch will be on Friday, September 23rd ( PM opening)
and 24th (10 to 5 sale), this year, with the rain date on Sunday the
25th.
We are, of course, looking for as many volunteers as we can get
for all days. As you will remember, most of friday is spent getting
pumpkins out to the Oval and setting them up (and pricing them) for
the opening at 5:00. Saturday is the sale, and from 9:00 AM to 2:00 or
3:00 PM, we will all be REALLY busy. This is the period when we need
the maximum number of people. Sunday, we will hopefully not even be
there, but in case of rain, I need to come up with a list of those who
could come to help.
SO: Please get back to me as soon as you can with some specifics
about when you can show up to volunteer. Typically, the "shifts" have
been divided into the following:
friday AM: 9:00 - 1:00 (schlepping pumpkins to the oval)
friday PM: 1:00 - 5:00 (unwrapping, setting up, pricing)
friday opening: 5:00 - 8:00 PM (working the crowd)
friday overnight: (guarding the pumpkins)
saturday sale: 8:00 AM - 2 or 3 (selling, wrapping, cashiering, etc..)
saturday cleanup: 5:00 to 7:00 (clean up the mess, run stuff back to
lab)
Every year, we have more volunteers than the last year, and I always
think we'll have enough, but we never do. So please!!! ask a friend or
two (or three) if they want to come along and help. It's so much more
fun if we're not short-staffed. And, as in previous years, every
volunteer will receive a Pumpkin Patch t-shirt.
Thanks all,
Peter
