What is games research? Can video games change the world we live in?
The MIT Game Lab brings together scholars, creators, and technologists to
teach, conduct research, and develop new approaches for applied game design and
development. Games are a thriving field, communication medium, and industry.
To explore the possibilities of games in other industries and disciplines
and discuss the opportunities for growth for games, the MIT Game Lab is hosting
a symposium, "Games In Everyday Life And Why That Matters To You", at the Wong
Auditorium at MIT on September 21, 2012. gamelab.mit.edu
The symposium will feature a lecture from leading new media scholar,
Professor Henry Jenkins, the executive director of the Singapore-MIT GAMBIT Game
Lab, Philip Tan, and the current director of Comparative Media Studies at MIT,
Professor William Uricchio and will be followed by a keynote from visionary
game developer Peter Molyneux. Afterward, the symposium will continue with the
following four panels with leading industry professionals and games
researchers: Applied Game Research: Players, Design, and Technology, Games
for Learning, Meaningful R&D Partnerships, and Positive Game Lab Impact.
The MIT Game Lab is also excited to announce that Professor Sebastian Seung,
leading connectomics scientist http://bcs.mit.edu/people/seung.html
and creator of EyeWire https://eyewire.org/, will be delivering the closing
keynote for Games In Everyday Life And Why That Matters To You.
