The MIT Media Lab is collaborating with the London-based theater group Punchdrunk to create an online connection to their hit NYC show, Sleep No More. We are seeking an UROP for the remainder of the Spring Semester to assist in web development for the online experience using technologies such as HTML5, Javascript, and interactive graphics using Canvas. Experience with Java and familiarity with databases (MySQL) are also desirable.
In the live show, masked audience members are free to explore and interact with a highly-detailed and rich environment, set up in an old warehouse. As they move freely through the space, they encounter performers who are performing the story of Macbeth combined with elements from Hitchcock films. We are developing an online world that can be a companion to this detailed real-life space, in which online participants can partner with live audience members to explore the interactive, immersive show together, enhancing the experiences of both partners through new dimensions opened up in both real and virtual worlds. This online connection will be launched as a trial run in the middle of May.
There is also an opportunity to continue with the Opera of the Future group at the Media Lab on similar projects using these technologies.
Please contact Peter Torpey at patorpey at media.mit.edu if you're interested in this opportunity.
