Hello!

So Kill Screen has a brand-new office on Chrystie and Rivington (in the same building that Talking Heads lived in and played their first show). So we're looking for some help! (Local is preferred, but not required!)

Real quick -- about us!
-We're a leading voice on the intersection of games, play and culture.
-We produce a print quarterly and a daily website in addition to an editorial partnership with the second largest music site in the world, Pitchfork.
-We've been featured in the New Yorker (twice), NPR, Details, GQ, Esquire, the FADER, Ars Technica, and others.
-We've thrown parties at MoMA, programmed for the New York Film Festival, and curated a section of Billboard!
-Kill Screen also runs a production arm called Kill Screen MFG that builds games, consults, and manages events.

We don't like giving out internships without a lot of responsibility. This is a position meant to train young aspiring writers interested in the intersection of games and culture. We have a specific point of view on games here at Kill Screen, and we'd like to find bright, passionate, dedicated young folks who love games, but more importantly love art, literature, music, film, television, architecture, and theater, and can spot the common ground they share with games.

Internships will be given on a three-month revolving term.

Editorial duties will include, but aren't limited to:
-writing (duh)
-preparing articles in the CMS
-conducting interviews
-coordinating production with illustrators and writers
-writing our weekly newsletter
-finding and summarizing links to populate the news page
-searching for art
-transcription
-organizing our reviews database

Specifically, we'd love to see someone who's interested in news.

For art, duties include:
- basic image editing (Photoshop resizing, cropping, CMS layout)
- assist in assigning illustrations and corresponding with illustrators, with an eye on the daily publishing schedule
- source images on Flickr
- maintain a list of contacts; help find new illustrator contacts
- help find & select art images for PAUSE/Bits
- bonus: photographer for events and other NYC assignments

If you are local, you will also be needed to help with event production from time to time.

TO APPLY, please submit:
-a resume
-two short clips/three pieces of art if you have them (400-600 words. Also just paste them in.)
-two links to interesting game-related stories/writing/features, and one game-related image. (They don't have to be yours, but take a look at our Bits page and get a sense of our tone. We are very interested in things that don't scream "games," but suggest them through their design or implication. So a link to Modern Warfare 3 screens is probably not going to cut it.)

And please answer these questions:
-If a game could be set in any time/place/locale, where would you choose?
-What's your favorite piece of non-game journalism/writing
-What non-game design person has ideas most relevant to the world of games?

Chocolates are nice also.

FOR SALES AND MARKETING:

Kill Screen Media is seeking a sales and marketing intern to participate in the growth and development of our company. Our quickly growing print and digital editorial properties will provide the perfect setting for an enterprising business student to learn the media sales and marketing business.

This intern should have excellent interpersonal communications and sales instincts, and will work alongside our Director of Sales and Marketing to build brand relationships and secure advertisements for our magazine and website.

An intern will be responsible for helping to research brands and generate sales leads, and can expect to help reach out to prospective advertisers.

He/she must be available at our office (195 Chrystie St., New York City) once or twice per week for 3-4 hours, plus some offsite involvement, all totaling approximately 10-15 hours per week.

TO APPLY, please submit:
-a resume (Just paste it please -- no attachments. We don't care about styling of resumes.)
