GAMBIT doesn't usually field a team for the Microsoft Imagine Cup (it's
right in the middle of the summer) but if some of you are interested in
forming your own team, let me know and I'll sign up for their information
list.

I would like to introduce and invite you and your students to a technology
competition sponsored by Microsoft called "Imagine Cup”. What started nine
years ago as a way to get students excited about technology has transformed
into something truly inspiring. This is a chance for your students to test
their creativity and skills, to have an impact on major global issues, and
to show their peers — and the rest of the world — what you’re school is made
of. This is Imagine Cup 2011! The worldwide competition will be held in
July 2011 in New York City this is the first time in nine years that it will
be in the United States.
Below is a quick synopsis of the competition. *We would love to have your
school represented at this competition. Simply reply back to my email and I
can register you to start receiving information on this competition today!*
Registering does not obligate you in any way, but is simply a way to access
and learn more about Imagine Cup”. After registering, you will receive a
newsletter about the competition and a call from Edwin Guarin to visit with
you about how he can help your students participate.
Engage your students—and see ideas come alive.
Imagine Cup 2011 can provide the extra spark to inspire your students and
help them realize their potential. Through Imagine Cup, sponsored by
Microsoft, student teams create innovative technical solutions for some of
the world’s toughest problems. In the process, they:
- Acquire knowledge that aligns with curriculum goals in your course.
- Get access to software to help them excel with technology.
- Gain valuable industry connections and resume-building experiences.
- Achieve recognition for themselves and their college, university, or
high school.
Faculty mentors require no special training—just an interest in helping
students succeed.
*SOFTWARE DESIGN*
Students use their creativity to develop applications that help solve the
world’s toughest problems.
*EMBEDDED DEVELOPMENT*
Teams create embedded systems for mobile phones, GPS receivers, or similar
devices to address critical issues.
*GAME DESIGN*
Students invent new games that resolve serious problems. Everyone wins when
games serve the needs of humanity.
*DIGITAL MEDIA*
Whether it’s photos, music, videos or something new, teams collaborate on
breakthrough ideas in digital media.
*IT CHALLENGE*
Students compete online, answering quizzes to test their broad IT knowledge
and real-world scenarios.
Have a great week!
