Dear friends,
The Friends of the Arts is making its first trip to the Boston Symphony
Orchestra this season on Thursday, November 13. Come hear Stravinsky's Rite
of Spring with us! It has been nearly 100 years since the premiere of this
sensational piece, and it calls for a celebration! (Hopefully there will be
no riots and/or fire alarms this time! If you want to make sense of the
last comment, go read more about this piece at
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Rite_of_Spring .) This week's program also
includes Tchaikovsky's Hamlet and the American premiere of Dean's Dramatis
personae (a trumpet concerto).
The Boston Symphony Orchestra has this really amazing deal for students in
the Cambridge/Boston area, where we can attend most of its concerts through
the year for FREE, with the BSO College Card! The College Card can be
purchased at Copytech (11-004) for just $5. Tickets for the concert have to
be picked up beforehand at the box office at Symphony Hall. The tickets for
the concert on any given week are typically available from the Monday of
that week. We recommend that you pick up tickets early in the week, since
they sometimes run out of College Card tickets for the popular concerts.
As usual, there will be free dinner before the concert, at 5:45 P.M.,
somewhere in the math department (location to be announced). Please RSVP
for dinner at:
