Abstract
 
The talk will discuss the perspectives of international trade in natural
gas. In 
particular, the changing conditions under which this trade takes place‹such
as increasing global competition for natural gas, a changing role of
long-term contracts and the danger of a cartel.
 
The talk will also highlight potential scenarios for the development of
natural gas trade to 2030, based on joint research with the World Gas Model.
 
The talk also reports on the major findings of the study ³Globalization of
Natural Gas Markets², carried out jointly by DIW Berlin and the Dresden
University of Technology.


Christian von Hirschhausen
 
Dr. Christian von Hirschhausen is the Professor of Energy Economics and
Public Sector Management at Dresden University of Technology and Research
Director at DIW Berlin (German Institute for Economic Research). He is an
Associate Researcher at CEEPR, the Center for Energy and Environmental
Policy Research at MIT. He is a consultant to the European Union,
international organizations and industry, amongst others on international
energy policy, with a focus on natural gas. Additionally he is a coordinator
of the research program ³Globalization of Natural Gas Markets², carried out
jointly by DIW Berlin and Dresden University of Technology.
 
Dr. von Hirschhausen holds a PhD in Applied Industrial Economics from the
Ecole des Mines (Paris), a Master of Economics from the University of
Colorado at Boulder and a Master in Industrial Engineering from TU Berlin
University of Technology.
