Global Warming from an African Perspective

Several times a day, every day of the year, where a winding road  
crosses the equator just north of Nairobi, Kenya, wealthy tourists  
join a poignant tribute to science, a demonstration of the magical  
Coriolisforce.  It is a ritual to Africans, a scientific experiment  
to tourists, and a hoax to the scientists who express their outrage  
on the Web.  All commit errors, the same mistakes plaguing  
discussions of global warming.  Correcting them is a challenge,  
especially in South Africa, land of affluence and abject poverty.
