Don't miss these great events! The Sustainability @ Sloan Speaker Series is
pleased to host three events this week that you may be interested in-- all with

Former CA State Assembly Woman Fran Pavley, and E2 Founder Bob Epstein

Thursday May 3, 5:30-7PM, E51-395 -- Heavy Appetizers will be provided

Topic: How and Why Business Wins with Global Warming Legislation

Fran Pavley is a former three-term CA state assembly woman. Her landmark
legislation on global warming has become a model for other states and countries
to follow. She became known as one of the most effective legislators in
Sacramento. Serving with integrity and vision, the former Mayor of Agoura Hills
and long time public school teacher, had over 70 of her bills and resolutions
become law.

Bob Epstein is cofounder of Environmental Entrepreneurs (E2) and an engineer
with a Ph.D. from the University of California, Berkeley. He is a co-founder of
four information technology companies: Sybase, Inc., GetActive Software, Zight
(Colorado Microdisplay) and Britton-Lee. Bob currently is Chairman of GetActive
Software, Trustee of the Natural Resources Defense Council,  and a board member
of the Cleantech Venture Network.

Kim Thompson

Thursday, 3 May, 12:00 - 1:00pm, E51-145 ? Non-pizza lunch will be provided.

Topic: Environmental Risks and New Product Development

Michael T. Huguenin is Executive Director of the Harvard Center for Risk
Analysis. From 2000 through 2004 Mr. Huguenin served the United Nations
Compensation Commission in Geneva by directing scientific and economic
fact-finding concerning claims for environmental and public-health damages
resulting from the 1991 Persian Gulf War. He holds an A.B. in Physics from
Washington University in St. Louis and a M.Sc. in Management from the Sloan
School at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Kimberly M. Thompson is a visiting Associate Professor at Sloan. Her research
interests focus on developing and applying quantitative methods for risk
assessment and risk management. In March 2003, Professor Thompson released the
first study of the Fortune 1000 companies aimed at assessing their commitments
to children.

Friday, 4 May, 12:00 - 1:00pm, E51-315 ? Non-pizza lunch will be provided.

Topic: Developing a shared vision within organizations, especially if you?re
not CEO!

Dr. Peter Senge, world renowned expert on the Theory of Learning Organizations
will lead us in a workshop to motivate deep thinking through sense making and
inventing new possibilities.

Description: With commencement around the corner for a lot of us comes the time
to contemplate life in large organizations from a middle to senior management
perspective. We?re on the way to the top but not there just yet! One of the
concerns that we may face is to motivate deep thinking amongst peers,
subordinates and even superiors on contemporary issues?.by leading change
from within.  This session is co-sponsored by the Sloan Fellows "Social Impact
Group" as well as the "Sustainability at Sloan" alliance of student groups.
