About Mark:
Mark has been starting companies for almost ten years. Most recently, he founded
X1 Technologies in 2002, helping to spark the desktop search revolution. Along
the way, X1 picked up awards and plaudits of all kinds, including the Technical
Excellence award from PC Magazine. Mark directed product and company strategy,
and was instrumental in Yahoo's licensing of X1 as its desktop search product.
In addition to X1, Mark was one of the first employees at Idealab and a founder
of GoTo.com (which became Overture Services and is now Yahoo Search
Marketplace), helping define and launch the company in 1996. He also started
Intranetics (now Intranets.com), XBeams, a structural prototyping technology
company, Blackdart, an office supplies e-commerce company, and served as the
general manager of a streaming media company called FasTV. Mark has a degree in
history from the University of Chicago. Mark has also helped found two
non-profit educational organizations.
