This panel event brings together some of our foremost practitioners in
the field of master planning for sustainability, both within the USA
and abroad. When planning for large new developments we have the
greatest opportunity to set a path towards sustainability. We also face
the greatest barriers to doing so.
This panel will reveal the nature of the political, technical and
financial complexities that are at play in the master planning process
for large new developments, exploring opportunities for transcending
these barriers and planning effectively for sustainability. The audience
will hear about courageous planning efforts that are making early
commitments such as climate neutral development, complete on site
treatment of water and sewage and the equivalent of a LEED platinum
commitment for all building structures. We will share in what these
pioneering efforts have to teach us all as we find our own roles in a
world of ongoing development and global environmental decline.
