Abstract

The electric utility industry is currently facing the most challenging
era for addressing new environmental mandates and expectations for
future requirements while meeting the continuing and growing demands
for electricity. The new environmental mandates include the Clean Air
Interstate Rule (CAIR), the Clean Air Mercury Rule (CAMR), the Clean
Air Visibility Rule (CAVR) and other new water and land related rules.
The presentation will discuss the challenges and costs related to
meeting the new rules and the growing pressures related to Global
Climate Change that impact overall compliance with the new rules and
the continuing and growing electricity demands of the United States and
Southern Company's service territory.
