[Editors] message from OGC re video captioning

I’m sending this message to the editors list on behalf of Erin Johnson and Brad Abruzzi at the Office of the General Counsel. Since many of us deal with video, it seems important that MIT's communicators/editors are aware of this lawsuit. Please follow up with Brad or Erin directly if you have any questions. ATTORNEY/CLIENT PRIVILEGED COMMUNICATION

MIT has been sued by the National Association of the Deaf regarding the captioning of video content on its websites. As part of the information-gathering process related to this suit, the General Counsel’s Office would like the members of this list to provide some information about video posting practices to public-facing sites. At your convenience, please email Erin Johnson (copied) with the answers to the following questions.


1.      List the video-hosting platforms where you post videos.

2.      Identify the websites (if different from the platforms) where you embed or display video content.

3.      How many videos have you posted?

4.      Do you caption videos?

Please note that the OGC is only gathering information, and in no way does this involve any member of this list in the lawsuit.  If you have questions about the lawsuit, Brad Abruzzi and Erin Johnson will make themselves available to discuss.  As there are many of you on the list, it may make sense to set aside a specific time for a conference call.
