Esteemed Colleagues,
SA+P’s Department of Urban Studies + Planning is organizing an alumni event in Los Angeles on January 27, a Tuesday, and needs a writer to cover it.
The event will consist of about twelve ‘lightning talks’ of about three minutes each, given by LA alums on topics they each consider to be of significant importance to the planning profession. The talks will be preceded by a talk of ten minutes or so by department head Eran Ben-Joseph, setting the conversation in the context of current initiatives of the department.
This is the second in what will be an ongoing series of such events around the country, geared to cultivate relationships between the department and its alums and among alums in the host cities. The first of these was held in NYC in November and included alumni from New Orleans presenting their ongoing work in helping that city recover from Hurricane Katrina, and considering the larger topic of disaster resilience. More than 100 local alumni attended.
We would like to have a skilled LA writer attend this event and write an overview of it for use on our websites and in our news digest PLAN. The presentations part of the meeting will run from about 6 to about 7:30PM at the Japanese American National Museum in Little Tokyo. The story will want to be 1000 words or so. The event will be recorded, so the writer could conceivably use the transcription as a back-up to his/her notes, if needed.
If you know of a good writer in LA who would be suitable for this assignment, would you let me know?
Many thanks!
Scott
