Tom's citation is from 2011; while the underlying premise remains true, the technology has advanced considerably in the ensuing years--rendering (IMHO) QR codes increasingly obsolete.

"There are many smart possibilities for QR codes as long as marketers remember their purpose: delivering additional, valuable information at a specific point of time. Using a QR code to deliver a how-to video, coupon, ticket, vCard, phone number or directions are wonderful uses of the technology. Using codes to repeat the same information already in front of you is a waste of great technology."

Dear fellow editors,

I'm curious to know how many of you use QR codes in poster advertisements for your events. Everything I've read/heard seems to suggest that QR codes aren't really effective. But, I see them on many posters throughout campus so perhaps they're more effective than I originally thought?

I welcome any feedback, thanks!

Julie
