The MIT Summer Philharmonic Orchestra<http://www.mitspo.org/> has been the preeminent summer community orchestra for nearly two decades. Made up of top musicians of the MIT community and the general Greater Boston area, MITSPO hosts a single concert event every summer.
MITSPO is conducted by George Ogata who founded the orchestra in 1995. George graduated from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1992 with a degree in biology and a minor in music. For the past seventeen years, he was the Conductor
of the Longy Youth Chamber Orchestra, a Preparatory
Studies division program at the Longy School of Music,
taking the orchestra on tours to France, Washington, D.C.,
Finland, Spain, Austria, Czech Republic, and Canada. In the fall of 2013, he will become Conductor of the Senior Orchestra of the Massachusetts Youth Symphony Project, an orchestra he helped found at the Powers Music School. Mr. Ogata was the Concertmaster of the MIT Symphony Orchestra for seven years.
