*Meeting Notes from January 18, 2012*

*Introducing the new MIT Copytech*

Steve Diamond of MIT Copytech had the best quote of this meeting, generating chuckles and attention:

Said Steve, speaking of the many new services MIT Copytech now offers: "I've been at MIT longer than some of the people in this room have been alive, and I must tell you that this has been one of the most exciting periods our department has ever been through."

Steve and colleagues Mike Healy and June Milligan spent the hour telling us about many of those services, and showing the results by passing along a wide range of brochures and pointing to a few posters.

Here are a few highlights:

--Mike explained that over the last year and a half, Copytech has dramatically improved its capabilities by acquiring new equipment ranging from color digital printers to the finishing equipment for folding, scoring, and trimming brochures and other materials.

--Copytech now offers design help, such as improving your logo. Come on over for a free 30-minute consultation; after that, the charge is $50/hour. "You won't find a lower price anywhere else," Mike emphasized.

--June went on to describe the center's event planning services (that was a new one to me!). For example, check out their Admit One Ticketing Service for managing tickets for MIT events.

--If you'd like to post something on one of the nine digital displays around campus, go to….Copytech (the service is called Infinite Display Digital Signage).

--Printing, of course, is still a core service. Here are a few cool "bet-you-didn't-know-they-could-do-that" facts: as of last fall, the center can now accept online printing submissions (high-quality PDFs are best). It's also capable of printing banners up to 42 inches wide but of any length on heavy-weight, durable paper.

--Finally, Copytech offers a copier/printer management service for those who don't want to handle daily maintenance of the equipment or are not in a position to acquire it. Currently 70 departments/labs/centers use this service.

Thanks to Communication Production Services for hosting this meeting. It's rather fitting, since Copytech is now part of the CPS!
