Hi all,
I have a colleague at UnitedHealth Group who would love to have an MIT innovator come speak at their annual internal "Innovation Day." He personally is obsessed with the folding cars and Mars rover but really would love anyone who could talk to laypeople about one or some of the crazy things going on at the Institute. In the past, they've had the CEO of GeekSquad and other high-level people talk about "thinking differently."

Two things: there is an honorarium and they'd like something other than the health side of things, since they're trying to branch out for the day from their usual area of work.

Would anyone have an idea of a good speaker? I also suggested to him the Dalai Lama Center since that is something I like, but it's really wide open. The full info on the event is below.

Any thoughts/ideas welcome! Thank you!
Melanie

Subject: Speaker for UHG Innovation Day in Hartford
Importance: High

Melanie,

So good speaking with you. As I mentioned, innovation is a cornerstone at UnitedHealth Group and our company's history includes a strong record of transformative innovation. A part of our culture initiative, our group is charged with making innovation "real" internally and making it part of everyone's job within the enterprise, regardless of level.

One of the ways we've done this is through an "Innovation Day," something we've held the last two years in our corporate office in Minnesota to celebrate the innovation that's happening across our enterprise. We do this through engaging speakers, educational sessions, demonstrations and recognizing employees/teams who are thinking differently. We are now bringing these events out to specific regions and on November 2nd in Hartford (185 Asylum St, UnitedHealthcare Center), we will be holding our first Northeast Innovation Day. The goal here is to take the energy, engagement, excitement, and educational components of our Corporate day to our employees in the Northeast.

One of the key components of the Day is engaging keynote speakers. MIT is obviously renowned for innovative thinking and I'm wondering if there is an opportunity here to have someone from MIT speak - maybe someone to talk about the Mars rover, the MIT Media Lab or the Dalai Lama Center for Ethics and Transformative Values....those are a few that caught my eye. The end result though is a speaker who is engaging, enlightening, and can bring a sense of urgency around breaking out of the norm and thinking differently. And yes, we do have some money set aside for an honorarium or speakers fees.

Thoughts? Would like to flush this out a bit more with you, but thought this is a good place to start. And to learn more about innovation at UnitedHealth Group, you can visit www.uhginnovation.com<http://www.uhginnovation.com>

Thanks again!
