[Editors] logo designers

Dear MIT Editors,

Does anyone have advice to share-either to the group or to me directly--about finding and working with a designer on a logo and basic graphic identity  for your organization?  What was the scope of your project? What did the designer require? How long was the process?

My church wants to have a logo for our letterhead, email newsletter, website, etc. We have a new mission statement and are in the midst of a major capital campaign and so we have done some work on this. But as a small non-profit, we do not a large budget for communications.
