MIT EDITORS' CLUB

*Meeting Notes from April 18, 2012*

Although this meeting was packed, as usual, with fun and useful information (for example, we learned how to Tell Someone Something They'd Rather Not Hear),* I realized that the topics I wanted to report on had the same theme: they involve work from several of Our Own.

For example, Robyn Fizz of Information Services & Technology told us about a new book many of you may be interested in. It's called Net Smart: How to Thrive Online, by Howard Rheingold. Check out Robyn's review of the book for IS&T at: <http://ist.mit.edu/news/net_smart>. ALSO, she notes that the author will be giving a public talk at MIT on Thursday, May 10, as part of the Media Lab Conversations Series. More at <http://www.media.mit.edu/events/2012/05/10/media-lab-conversations-series-howard-rheingold>.

The latest issue of the MIT Faculty Newsletter includes a piece by Eve Sullivan of the Laboratory for Nuclear Science. Eve, a longtime teacher for MIT's Charm School, writes about the late Dean Travis Merritt and the founding of Charm School. Go to <http://web.mit.edu/fnl/volume/244/sullivan.html>.

Finally, Nancy DuVergne Smith of the Alumni Association wrote a blog post for Slice of MIT on the latest issue of the MIT Faculty Newsletter, which in addition to Eve's piece also includes an editorial on the next president of MIT. See Nancy's post at:<http://alum.mit.edu/pages/sliceofmit/2012/04/26/faculty-musings/>.

It just occurred to me that there is a fourth MIT Editor who should be included in these minutes: David Lewis, the managing editor of the MIT Faculty Newsletter. To see the most recent issue, go to: <http://web.mit.edu/fnl/>.

Go MIT Editors!

*That's the subject Eve (see above) has taught at Charm School for many years, and she shared her tips with us at this meeting.
