MIT EDITORS' CLUB
*Meeting Notes from June 11, 2012*
As this meeting was breaking up, Melanie Miller of chemical engineering said, "I can't wait to see what you write in *these* minutes, Elizabeth." Suffice it to say that at one point we strayed--wildly--from the general topic of MIT communications (although the conversation started with a communications question!). Melanie's comment gives me the chance to remind ya'll that Editors' Club minutes are far from complete---you have to come to the meetings for the full experience! :)
*Newsletter Hurdles*
Melanie and Nancy Stauffer of the MIT Energy Initiative both shared copies of their latest newsletters (XCurrents and Energy Futures, respectively). Actually, both publications are more magazines than newsletters, at 32 and 56 pages each, respectively.
We asked both Melanie and Nancy to describe the biggest hurdle in producing their biannual pubs.
Nancy: the reviewing process, which involves multiple MITEI people in addition to the researcher(s) interviewed for each story.
Melanie: the fact that she's a one-woman shop, although she notes that this can also be good.
You can download PDFs of both XCurrents and Energy Futures at the following urls:

*Productive Editors*
My in-box shows that many other Editors have also been busy producing their own newsletters. Here are some examples:
Brain Scan (McGovern Institute for Brain Research at MIT)

Chemformation (Chemistry)

*Congratulations, Lisa*
After 23 years at MIT, Lisa Damtoft, who has been the webmaster for MIT Medical for the last ~5 years, will be retiring in August. At this meeting, we wished her ALL THE BEST, and pestered her to finish the web site for her own artwork. After all, we expect that her collection of paintings and more will begin to grow come August…..
*Next Meetings*
MIT Editors' Club will take a hiatus over the summer; we'll regroup in September. Schedule to come…..
*Thank you!*
Many thanks to Melanie Miller of chemical engineering for hosting this last meeting of the semester.
Thanks, too, to Jessica Jones of the Undergraduate Practice Opportunities Program, who sent me the following comic, which I in turn am sharing with you.
Happy Summer,
Elizabeth
