Hey folks,
Generally speaking, it should be okay to hire a grad student who is unsupported or who has a fellowship for up to ten hours per week. The part where it gets sticky is if they are supported by an RA or TA, which is considered a half-time job. International students, by law, cannot work more than the 20 hours per week defined as a full time RA or TA. (http://odge.mit.edu/gpp/assistance/employment/)
Please call the ODGE with any specific questions. =)
Best,
Heather

I received several pings of interest from grad students. I'd been told that grad students with fellowships can't be paid for additional work, but now I hear that might be possible. Checking into that.
I've also pinged my alma mater, Emerson, to see if there are any video students interested. In my days there as a communications/film/video student, I did a bunch of freelance work outside of school. One of my former instructors (I suppose "professor" but we didn't worry about titles at Emerson - all first name) is checking for me.

Are there any more suggestions about videographers?
I sent an email to Clarissa Roque on Feb 7, requesting a quote to video some lectures for us, but she has not replied.
Does anyone have other recommendations for a videographer? I know my department will not want to spend a lot
of money on this. We already have a quote from AMPS.
Thanks!

Is your DLC thinking about creating a few videos for its website? Are you looking for a freelancer to do the work?
If so, I would like to recommend Clarissa Roque, a recent graduate of Bunker Hill Community College, who interned with me last semester. Clarissa majored in video production at BHCC and is professional, responsible, and fun to work with. To get an idea of her creativity, watch this short video:

You can reach Clarissa at clararroque at yahoo.com.br<mailto:clararroque at yahoo.com.br>. And yes, despite the .br in her Yahoo address, she lives locally. Clarissa is from Brazil, but is in the Boston area for another year.
Please feel free to ping me if you have questions about working with Clarissa.
Regards,
Robyn
