The Chronicle of Higher Education is seeking an enterprising and experienced reporter to cover the world of graduate education and the students who are aspiring to be part of the next generation of college faculty.
This reporter will cover all aspects of graduate life, from the admissions process to scholars' early careers. He or she will write about the work and academic life of graduate students, who juggle teaching and research responsibilities that are key to supporting many core university functions.
The beat will include stories about these students' training and education, workplace conditions, and work-life balance as well as their job prospects, postdoc positions, and career paths. Stories about graduate students and new Ph.D.'s also will serve to provide an early look at the rising ranks of faculty.
This is a growing coverage area at The Chronicle, and the reporter must demonstrate an ability to mine new sources and generate strong and original story ideas, framed for a national audience. He or she must be able to juggle multiple stories for different platforms and be able to expertly navigate the academic world. We're looking for an engaging storyteller who writes with authority and can drive conversations about the issues facing the graduate world.
