[Editors] using Archives for news research?

Hi fellow editors,
I'm hoping to get some help and/or offering a discussion topic for today's Editors mtg in 4-303:

I'm putting together a "retrospective" alumni news for the spring (going along w/ that 150th theme). Has anyone worked with Archives before to gather information about classes, previous dept. events, etc.? And/or does anyone have tips on the best way to go about this?

(I'm a champ at getting images through the MIT Museum but actual research I'm a little green on)
