CURATOR, KOCH INSTITUTE PUBLIC GALLERY, MIT Museum/Koch Institute for Integrative Cancer Research, to assume direct responsibility for developing and delivering the first exhibitions that will be installed in the Koch Institute Public Gallery, coinciding with the formal opening of the Koch Institute in 2011. The gallery will provide a suite of exhibitions about cancer-related and other biomedical science and engineering at MIT. The curator will handle exhibition-related research, including library and archive research on the history of MIT life sciences and technology and interviews with key Koch faculty, staff, and students; develop detailed proposals for exhibition content, including researching the educational needs of target audiences and identification of appropriate objects, images, videos, and multimedia elements; draft exhibition text; work with the Museum's exhibition team and external consultants (designers, fabricators, etc.) to ensure successful implementation; and supervise exhibit installations to ensure successful delivery on time and budget. Will report to the director of the MIT Museum.

REQUIREMENTS: close acquaintance with the recent history and contemporary practice of the life sciences and technology, preferably in cancer research; a minimum of two years' experience working in informal science education and public outreach, preferably in a museum environment; ability to work in a multidisciplinary team of content and exhibition management specialists, designers, fabricators, etc.; academic training (preferably at the doctoral level) in appropriate subject area, e.g., life sciences and technology, history of the life sciences and technology, and/or science communication.
