SPECIAL ASSISTANT TO THE DEPARTMENT HEAD, Urban Studies and Planning,  
to coordinate departmental communications and publications (both  
print and web-based); alumni/ae relations; awards, prizes, and  
nominations; IAP (January term) activities; and accreditation and  
other external reviews. Will act as liaison with the Dean's Office  
and Alumni/ae Association on fund-raising, communications, and alumni/ 
ae initiatives; collect and disseminate data; coordinate special  
events and projects; and hire and supervise student assistants and  
professional consultants as needed.

REQUIREMENTS: a minimum of five years' experience and a master's  
degree, preferably in city planning or related field. Outstanding  
writing, communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills  
needed. Must be able to work effectively both individually and as  
part of teams that include faculty, staff, students, and alumni/ae.  
Solid experience in program development and events and communication  
management desirable. A background in higher education and academic  
administration are plusses, as is familiarity with MIT. MIT-00004588-P
