[Editors] question about a strait and a comma

Hi,

I am editing our incoming students' bios for the biocards that MIT Sloan
prepares for everyone.

We typically ask them to list their "favorite place." One student, who is
from Turkey, listed his favorite place as: Bosporus Istanbul.

I had never heard of it, and assumed that it was a city, and he just forgot
to add a comma. Well, Bosporus is actually a strait, which connects the
Black Sea and the Mediterranean Sea, and runs through the city of Istanbul.

So, my question is, should I add a comma? Should I just leave it as "The
Bosporus" as it seems to be commonly called. Or, should I just leave as is?

Does anyone know correct punctuation when listing a strait and a country?

Thanks!!

Amy
