Hello,

Next week Wednesday, July 18 at 1:30 pm in the N42 Demo Center, IS&T
is piloting a new course called "Computing Security for Staff."

The course will be 45 minutes long with 15 minutes available at the
end for questions. Because this first one is a pilot, we ask that
participants stay for another half hour afterwards to discuss
feedback about the course.

Course description:

The risk of exposing or losing electronic information in this Age of
Information Technology has increased as computer technology has
advanced and electronic consumer products have become more widely
available. Although we are not all computer experts, there are
various simple things we can do when working with computers that will
minimize this risk.

This course will discuss basics on how modifying a few computer
settings and making slight changes to your computing behavior in your
every day work life will protect your and MIT’s electronic
information. An overview of which threats are out there will help you
to gain an appreciation for why these few activities are crucial. You
will be able to apply much of this information to using your home
computers as well.
