This first paragraph from a movie review in the Guardian
Weekly, June 25-July 1, shows what's missing in American papers:
> Of all the challenges that might confront a multimillion-pound
>English-language film project, casting a non-English-speaking,
>non-acting pygmy in a leading role must rank near the top. 'It has been
>interesting,' says Steve Clark-Hall in the tone of someone who has just
>seen his grandmother walk on a tightrope.
> On the same page was an article about the Berkeley Robotics
>Lab and its BLEEX (the Berkeley Lower Extremities
>Exoskeleton), "a pair of high-tech cyber-trousers for the Starship
>Troopers of tomorrow. BLEEX enables soldiers to talk vast distances and
>effortlessly carry huge loads--courtesy of 40 sensors, hydraulic motors
>and a total disregard for the inadvertently comical. Essentially, BLEEX
>is a pair of strap-on pogo sticks that 'become as one with the user.'"
The BLEEX director is Homayoon Kazerooni, MIT '82 SM & '85 ScD, Course 2.
