Since I graduated from the BU science writing program in the
previous century, I occasionally receive letters and resumes from BU
students who are job hunting. This time I am not circulating the
resume because the applicant sent an an extremely long and rather odd
cover letter with a postscript that I thought was very dubious. He
isn't a fresh grad who just didn't know any better, either--his
degree was in 1978. Here's the incriminating part:

"P.S. I am an avid reader, writer, and sports
enthusiast. Currently, in addition to Men's Health
Magazine, the Futurist, and the PGA Tour Partners
magazine; I read a book every two weeks. In addition,
I'm in the process of writing a comedy relating to the
most memorable and hilarious episodes of my youthful
days growing up in Acton.

"Finally, I believe in staying fit and active. I eat
right, get plenty of sleep, take vitamins, and drink
the proper amount of water. Currently, in addition,
to hiking and biking, I've been playing an average of
10 hours of tennis per week. Therefore, these are the
reasons why I state that I am enthusiastic, dedicated,
and hard working."
